Working from home is becoming increasingly popular, with many companies allowing and even suggesting that employees make a workspace at home. But what if you only need to work from home some of the time, or for short periods of time, do you still need an entire home office?

There are many ways to create a smaller, simpler space to get work done at home while not taking up space and breaking the bank. An empty hallway or stairway landing could finally find purpose by introducing a slim desk or console with a stool stored underneath. If you need more storage, a floating shelf could be built into any existing cupboards in a living space, to give it added function. If you need to spend more time at the desk, a chair with good back support might be needed. In this case, the storage or space under your stairway could be converted to a generous desktop, while staying clear of foot traffic. Or if you have a guest bedroom, this room could likely double as an ‘office’ while not in use by guests.
