Every home needs regular maintenance. One way to ensure your maintenance is regular enough is to have a schedule of when certain tasks should be done, but at times you may find many items don’t need maintenance at the times you scheduled. There are, however, common issues that come up more frequently in a home, and those can be good indicators of when it’s time to get some maintenance tasks done.

For starters, you can check your air conditioning systems. Test that they are able to produce both low colds and high heat. If not, it may be an early sign that the unit needs servicing. This check can also prevent possible damage. Another early sign that can prevent serious issues later is sticking locks and hinges on doors. So test each key for a smooth turn and lock, rather than waiting for the locks to give in and need replacement. Toilets, sinks, and bathtubs are also good indicators of general plumbing conditions. If there are even smaller blockages or drips, it can be a sign of other issues that could later cause flooding or lifting tiles and water damage. These are all easy things to spot early and they provide a good indication of whether it’s time for major maintenance or not.
