Many of us are now spending most of our time at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that includes our working hours. If we previously worked in an office or a shared workspace, we likely now sit at our computers at home for much of our day. And while many companies are required to improve workspace health and comfort for their employees, they don’t control our home office. So have you made sure your new workspace is healthy? Making your workspace ergonomic doesn’t always require purchasing expensive specialized items, often we can make huge improvements with things we already have!

First, make sure your head is vertical to your neck. This means raising and angling your screen so that you are not looking down or up, but straight ahead. If you use a laptop, perhaps putting it on a few books and using a wireless mouse and keyboard is a solution. Next, consider your hands and wrists, make your height allows your hand, wrist, and forearms to all be flat at the same level. Lastly, adjust the angle of your back so that you can achieve the previous suggestions while leaning into the chair. If your chair isn’t adjustable, using a rolled-up towel behind your lower back can help. Now you can keep working from home with more comfort, and without harming or straining your body.
