When you think of pests that damage your home, the first thing that comes to mind is probably termites. Interestingly, termites are more closely related to cockroaches than to ants, despite the similarities.
How can you tell if you have a termite invasion in progress inside your home?
There are some signs that you can keep on the lookout for. If you walk around your home and knock on any wooden surfaces that are exposed, and you see sawdust falling out, that is a possible sign. Around spring you can also keep an eye out for swarming termites, since they will be flying around, and you might be able to find dislodged wings on window sills and similar surfaces.
To keep termites away, you should be careful not to have easy access to any wooden features of your home. If you have wood for burning in a stove or something similar, store this away from your home, since the logs could bring termites with them.
