As we clean around our homes – a ladder is often necessary. Gutters and downspouts tend to accumulate a lot of debris that will need to be cleared out. For this you will likely need a ladder so here are a few safety reminders:

  • You may think the ladder looks like it has a secure footing before you ascend it, but you should still always double-check. Even if you are not going up very high, serious accidents can still happen so it’s much better to be safe than sorry.
  • Do not become overly confident or relaxed when using a ladder, especially as you are nearing the ground. Remember, any fall could cause injury.
  • It may be annoying to constantly move the ladder just a tiny amount, but it is worth it. Overreaching will put you at risk of serious injury. Ask yourself, is saving a couple of minutes worth the risk?
  • Never position a ladder in a doorway unless you have locked the door and informed everyone else in the household that they should not use it.
